James understands schools – that most important fact is critical in advising clients on how to do fundraising that enhances and builds on what a school is actually about. His advice has been vital in enabling us to establish a framework for development at Bradfield that feels well thought out, long term and engages our whole School Community in the future.
— Alistair MacEwen, Director of Bradfield Society and Development

I began fundraising in 1992, after a short career as a qualified Land Agent.  For ten years I managed a team handling the regional appeals, grant bids and PR for The Woodland Trust.  I then moved to Tonbridge School to set up a new Foundation.  In my nine years at Tonbridge I worked with some inspirational leaders and volunteers and enjoyed some successful appeals (the most ambitious was for the Tonbridge School Centre). In 2011 I moved to The King’s School Canterbury to set up their development campaign.

In 2013 I decided to become a consultant.  I haven’t looked back since then and have worked with some great clients (check out the list). I really enjoy the creative freedom, pace and practicality of my work.

I know schools beyond the development job.  I have a First Class English degree and taught English and Creative Writing at King's and Tonbridge and was a house tutor.  I still help run Tonbridge's Climbing Club trips.

Technical support

cindy 2.png

Underhill Associates can provide expert database support for fundraising and donor stewardship programs thanks to the involvement of Cindy Price, who has over 10 years’ experience in a school development office, with an in-depth knowledge of The Raiser's Edge database.

Through remote access, Cindy can create queries and reports for clients.  More fundamentally, she can also advise on cost-effective database solutions for those who do not have proprietary software, enabling clients to develop a suite of in-house tools for managing donor program's and project-based fundraising.

Cindy’s early career was predominantly in the pharmaceutical industry as a Database Manager for a clinical trials contract house with clients including GlaxoSmithKline, Eli Lilly and Pfizer.

Design

Jacek (pronounced Yatsek) has worked in graphic design since 2008.  Before that he was a fundraiser in the arts and an actor in a youth street-theatre group.  He began designing for the arts charity he created with friends, but he found he was a natural and the work quickly expanded to include projects for councils, restaurants and then international companies.

In addition to his graphic design work, Jacek runs a web development company with three programmers.
